Freddy Gröger, son of a Polish mother and German Father is Belgian.
At the age of 5 he started playing the violin.
Aiming at a professional career as a musician, he got in contact with several luthiers and – fascinated by those craftsmen – he took a violinmaking course.

From 1990 till 2000 he matured his skills in restauration and setup, while initiating workshops in the far east.
By 2001 he openend his own workshop in Mechelen, concentrating on restauration and repair of violins, violas, cellos and doublebasses as well as their bows.

Since 2008 Gröger Strijkinstrumenten moved to a spacious workshop in the heart of Antwerp, together with his gifted friend and colleage Jan Rammeloo, Guitarmaker.
Antique and contemporary instruments are available for purchase at the shop.

Freddy Gröger’s work is appreciated by soloïsts, professional musicians and students wether it’s a simple bow rehairing or an extensive restauration and personal setup.

New instruments are built on commission in close contact with the player to obtain a personal result and  to keep in touch with the musicians specific desires.

Inspired by the 16th and 17th-century classical makers, Freddy uses his own model with contemporary or antique finish.
